About

Hi, my name is Alex Benke.  I’m a graduate of Cornell University from a couple more years ago than I like to think.  I currently work in Finance and Technology at a major bank, and live in New York City.

While I have many interests, including rock climbing, multi-day hiking treks, photography, wine and programming (no particular order!), I have more recently developed an interest in personal financial planning.  I spent 2006 getting my CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER(TM) designation, and the following year working as a financial planner in a small practice in NJ.  I went from knowing nothing about financial planning except that I should save more to being ‘certified’ to help others plan their finances – and hopefully achieve their goals.  Although I no longer get paid to work directly in the personal planning field, I have developed an interest in financial planning, and feel that my knowledge may be helpful to those my age who are sometimes too busy to worry about planning their financial futures… or don’t even realize that they should be planning.  Your 20s and 30s are the most important years to start planning your financial future, because your decisions during these years will affect your life later on more than any other time.

I hope you find my posts here useful and interesting.  Please leave me a comment with your thoughts.

I recommend starting here.
